Quick question regarding transmission cooler

Im installing a

$51 Hayden 678 Universal Rapid-Cool 9.5” x 11” Add-On Transmission Cooler – Not for Direct Replacement of the OE Cooler

Hayden 678 tranny cooler on my 03 3.4L. By adding this will it increase the fluid capacity or does it not hold enough fluid to make a difference.

 

The size of the cooler dictates how much additional fluid it requires. That one is not an extremely large cooler. You should be fine to install the unit and then check the tranny fluid and add as needed. It won't go low enough to waste your trans. You will just have to top it off a bit.

 

I installed the exact same cooler and don't believe it took much more, just enough to compensate for the cooler and lines. I did a drain and fill at the same time since it was due, but that's up to you. Definitely a good choice n does it's job.

 

Thanks guys, i just recently did two drain and fills and i lost a little out of the lines on the install so ill check it after i run it and top off if needed.

 

Well heres the install, i just mounted it directly to A/C condensor with the supplied zip tab things. Very solid, i was surprised. two trips to the auto parts store because the supplied hos was only long enough to do one line and so i bought 3' and for the other and guess what, 6" short so back to get 4 more feet. The transmission actually took about a third of quart more at temp to get it to first hot mark. Also by mounting this way the horn bolts right back up with just a little persuasive bending of the tab. By the way i got this unit from Rock auto for fifty bucks shipped with our 5% discout on here. I think its good till October sometime.
