Will be looking at this 98 tomorrow...thoughts

This will be my off duty part time work truck. Pulling a 6X12 or 5X12 landscape trailer...single axle.

Besides the clutch and timing belt, what else should I ask for with regards to maintenance? Price?

I am not being a ass about this but remember, you are buying something for whatever reason someone else did no longer want. Just have it checked out so you have a good idea on any future problems. While the price seems a little high for the miles, I also know its a sellers market on these trucks with no rust. I think it looks nice, but remember nice don't get you to school/work or out on the town. And you should have some money set back for repairs, with that mileage, you never know when something could go out.

 

check the brakes,belts, look for any leaks normal stuff or you can pay a mechanic like 40 bucks to check it out or whatever the price is usually its around there, but carfax is your first step that can make or brake a deal. and if its at a dealer usually there is around 3-4k in mark up from whatever price they took it in on if its private then have some print outs of the book values actually you should do this for both.

 

Yeah, I will get him to do a Carfax...I've had my share of Toyota Trucks...an 89 with over 215 miles, and a 99 Tacoma TRD with 206K, both 5 speeds....I'm not expecting a jewel, just want to get an idea of what you guys thought. I currently have a slightly built '06 V8 4Runner as my DD, my wife an '11 Sienna.

220 I'm OK with...270k is pushing it but I'll see tomorrow. Thanks guys.

A 15 year old truck with 300k for $6k?

I paid $2k for a 15 year old Suburban with 90k on it.
I wouldn't pay a dime over $3k for that Tacoma, and that only with a clean Carfax AND full mechanical inspection by YOUR guy, plus a sample of the oil sent to Blackstone (your inspector can pull a couple of ounces and replace them with fresh oil).

 

3000-3500 sounds about right
