Extremely dissatisfied with 2005 tacoma 4wd pre-runner 4 cyl that I purchased new in Virginia in 2005. A/c compresser and other a/c parts fried in 2011. $1700 for after market repair. Now July 2013 and stuck in 4wd high with flashing 4lo light flashing. Dealer say need new actuator for $1600. I feel like this is not acceptable for an 8 yr old truck with 55,000k. I fell like I would never buy another one.

Anyone know anything about how to get it out of 4wd?? or fix this?
    Frustrated in North Carolina.

This is somewhat of a no shit question but I have to ask to make sure, when 4WD is flashing, you are letting off on the gas right?

I have tried turning the switch every possible way with no gas, in neutral, forward etc driving in reverse, turning and the dealer has too and it is stuck in 4wd high. dealer says the only fix is $1600 actuator replacement

Your 4x4 is probably upset that you've been referring to it as a "pre-runner" for the past 8 years.

One other question, have you actually turned your 4WD on every here and there? I hear that if you do not use it often it gets stuck.

Sort of like if you don't use it, you lose it.
