I always insist on OEM replacements, but that is just me. I don't think there is that much difference between OEM and most other "Name Brand" glass.

ok so I has good news and bad news..

tried to have the crack fixed first, but one of the fracture lines spread another inch instantly when the guy was just preparing the area for injecting it. so the glass is just too weakened and damaged to patch at this point cause those cracks are just gonna keep on spreading apparently. have to replace it now.

the good news is that the shop I went to does glass replacement work for the local Toyota dealer so they just happened to have on hand an OEM factory windshield that they had just removed from a Tacoma the other day, for the rather silly reasons that someone wanted to put some kind of coating on it but it had the tinyest chip in it (were talking millimeter sized, not in central driver vision either) so they warrantied it instead of just filling it.

I examined it myself and decided to take it and fill the tiny chip. it even has a tint strip on the top already so I don't have to have that redone either, saving more $. price for the whole thing is 270, parts, labor etc. I think that's about the best deal I could hope for right?

personally I think its a good deal. getting it installed tomorrow morning. :)

Don't know why anyone would spend extra for an OEM windshield, especially on these trucks...they aren't any better than anything else. Mine had little pits and chips in it after only about 20k miles. I got a chip that eventually spread, and put a new windshield that works and looks just as good as the original for $180.

the warranty had nothing to do with me, that was about the other truck

and all the related threads I read on tw about this indicate that not all windshields are created equal. some don't have issues, and some go through several replacements before they get one that doesn't have serious optical defects.

the quote for this was pretty much the same as the other option, no reason not to take it imo.

also, for those of you doing your own searches in the future, if your chip looks like mine, it will have to be replaced.
