Not a good portion of the beds are made in Mexico. ALL the beds are made in Mexico and then sent by rail to Texas.

Ya, Mexican production is not 100% of the DC.
Capacity of the Baja plant is around 50,000 trucks and 200,000 beds.

I was mistaken above, ALL beds are from Baja.

So if DC represents 55% of total sales and Baja is at full capacity on beds and bodies, then total DC sales are around 110,000, meaning that 60,000 DCs come from San Antonio (including all 2.7 DoubleCab) ;)

The symptoms sound just like a eagle talon I had. Ended up being a bad ecu. Dealer couldn't find a problem because it would either be completely dead with no computer response or running fine. never threw a code.

In reference to the truck refusing to start, do you have any other key fobs or remotes on your key chain? I have known of several late model Toyotas/Lexus vehicles that would not start on occasion. In each case, it was because of an electrical interference with the other fobs on the key ring. Try that next time anybody is stranded with a late model Toyota product.

That might happen with the keyless systems, but not with the Tacoma.

The Tacoma chipped key has a small RFID at the top of the key that is read at the cylinder, but it's a completely different technology from the keyless systems, and RFID chips in other keys would not be energized and read by the cylinder.

Interesting, because neither of these vehicles I mentioned were using a keyless system. The Lexus was being effected by a Nissan remote on the same key ring and the Corolla was being effected by a facility door fob on the same key ring. Both vehicles were towed to the dealer under warranty several times and the techs could never find an issue. Remember, this did not happen daily. Now after the other devices were removed from the key rings, neither vehicle ever has had a starting issue since. The Lexus dealer finally had a tech say they had seen this before and suggested taking the other remote off of her key ring. Same issue on a Corolla a few years later, same resolution. Not a coincidence in my own opinion. Something between the two systems does not play well together 100% of the time. All I'm saying is, if you have other fobs/remotes on your key ring, try taking them off.
