Hey everyone, I am new here so sorry if this is the wrong place. I am taking my recently purchased 2002 Tacoma double cab 4x4 off road this weekend, and I just put on fresh BFG KO's that I want to get dirty. I don't have the TRD package, which means no rear locker :( .

The off roading will consist of shallow streams, minor rock crawling, steep hills, ruts. Nothing too extreme.

Can you guys give me some tips / things to be aware of when off road without a locking diff? I don't want to get stuck haha. Thanks.

You'll do fine. It'll surprise you what these trucks can do. And if you're worried about getting stuck get a friend to come with you or bring some come alongs. Those can get you out if you're alone and don't have a winch but some will say that's a bad idea though.

Don't stop in mud or streams. To be honest I have yet to use my locker in a situation where I actually needed it. 4hi and 4lo have been more than sufficient.

Go slow into streams, then push the wake in front of your grille.

If you have to crawl over rocks, put your tires on the higher rocks to keep from dragging your undercarriage over them.

You should be fine without a locker if it's not too gnarly.
