Hey I'm new here and just purchases a 99 Tacoma sr5. It has some mods on it. Question I have is 1: it idles at 1500rpm. And 2. The owner said that it dies when it reaches operating temp. Sputters and stalls out is what he said. I had it running the entire time today when I looked at it. Engine light is on I'm going to check codes tomorrow. Any help would be appreciated.

    Welcome to the forums....

A little more information would be needed to even start to diagnose your problem, when you get the codes, that would be a place to start...

I assume you checked all the obvious, oil levels, no leaks, radiator full, belts, hoses, suspension, stuff like that...

Yeah I went and looked at it yesterday. There is no leaks the fluid lvls looked good. As far as the codes I didn't have a code reader with me so I'll do it tomorrow or hopefully tonight. I had it running yesterday and it didn't die once I turned it off and restarted it a few times to see if it would do it and it didn't do anything. The engine light is still on though. It seems to only do it when driving from what the guy who sold it to me said.

Alright so I pulled the codes today and only 1 showed up. P0100 which is a MAF sensor problem. Didn't clear the code yet though.

    .
Try cleaning the MAF sensor first, they make a spray for it, unhook the battery and see if the code clears

I also read that the engine temp sensor can cause the truck to die when it gets warm as well. So I'll clean the maf and get a new temp sensor. I read the symptoms and that is almost exactly what this one is doing.

Sounds good thanks. And I will. The guy I'm buying it from doesn't know what's wrong with it so I'm pretty sure I'm getting it for a steal with all the work that's already done to it.
