Howdy, thanks for having me on the forums.

I'm shopping for a Tacoma, leaning towards a 1998-2000 MY.

What should I check for specifically when it comes to these trucks out of the ordinary?

What is the stock 14x5 steel rim weight?

I found one I like, it's a manual transmission but it doesn't have a tachometer, what is up with that?

Are there any easy performance mods to get more power, better handling and better mpg? I know sometimes cone intakes can actually lower power and lower mpg.

I just wanted a small, nimble, light truck to haul light loads and take on camping trips so I was leaning towards a 2.4l 4x2 regular cab for the mpg.

    Thanks

Pay close attention to the condition of the frame.

I know the general information about the car from wikipedia and other sources.

I'm leaning towards an Xtra Cab now because I've been told they have a little better ride quality due to the longer and wider wheelbase. It couldn't hurt to have a little room in the cabin for dogs, kids and stuff too.

I've seen that they're prone to rust and there was a recall. I've found one vehicle for sale that says it has a, "1 year old new frame". How sketchy is this and what problems should I check for with that? Usually a replaced frame means serious issues. I imagine at the very least a proper alignment and hard-braking check is in order.
