My 1996 2.7 4cyl. is having over heating issues. Things ive done-changed thermostat, fan clutch, radiator fluid, radiator cap, also had it pressure tested and it was fine.

Mechanic said it could be a clogged radiator or my water pump?

Need advice from some fellow Toyota lovers, Thanks....

hmm, at that age i would take a guess at the water pump, clogged radiator maybe if you accidentally mixed antifreeze at any points.

    Thanks for the reply Gaunt596!!!!
I was also told that if the water pump was going bad it would leak or make lots of noise.

I am wondering if I should just change the water pump because of the age?

The truck also only seems to over heat in stop and go traffic, and only in the summer, this never happened in the winter

I agree, in my experience, water pumps really don't fail, the bearing fails, causing it to leak fluid, but still pumps water. I had one pump fail on an old Corolla that actually seized, and made a horrible noise.

My money is on a partially clogged radiator. I fought a similar situation with a 22R. Put up with it for about 6 months, and finally replaced the radiator. Problem solved. If both are original, then replace them.
