From my understanding, the 2012 and newer head units offer bluetooth PHONE and bluetooth MUSIC protocols. Previous years only offered bluetooth PHONE protocol.

I have just a few questions regarding the new 2012+ stock head unit.

    1) When connecting to bluetooth MUSIC protocol, I will typically use it to play Pandora over my android phone. My buddy has an aftermarket head unit with no direct pandora integration, however when he plays pandora over his blackberry paired over bluetooth to this aftermarket head unit, he can simply press the skip button on his head unit to skip to the next pandora song. Does the 2012+ stock head unit have this functionality? I hate having to go into my phone to skip to the next song....

    2) Will the new head unit work with my steering wheel controls?

    3) I don't want an aftermarket head unit. If I can get my hands on a new stock head unit, will it fit in my 2011 Tacoma?

I have a 2013 and I just hit the up arrow on my steering wheel to skip a song on Pandora

What system doyou have on your truck? Jbl non jbl etc

Also it won't sit flush on your truck and you're going to probably need the Bluetooth module. (With these stock radios they come separated from the radio

I believe I have JBL audio. Is there any way I can keep my 2011 head unit and simply upgrade the Bluetooth radio to support MUSIC protocol?

I have a 2012. I use my Note II (Android) for Pandora, 8 tracks, Vevo and Youtube. They all work great with Bluetooth. And yes you can control Pandora with your steering wheel controls.

Negative...it would be best you go aftermarket...
The newer jbl systems come with the touch screen entune which is not plug and play and will be alot of work plus not sure how that Bluetooth system on te new ones work

I have the non jbl stereo on my 2012. I can say the bluetooth is great. Blackberry/qnx does entune so Im assuming they have some insight into the basic model aswell.

My blackberry 10 phone can skip songs on most apps via truck controls, this is up to the app developer not the truck. Syncs great everytime I turn the key. You can send single phone book contacts at a time. Theres a speed dial titled blackberry voice control so I can dial that number to activate the voice recognition to send a text or something all hands free. While useing maps apps the turn by turn plays great and even turns the music down so you can hear the voice. Although you wont hear the turn by turn if your on say the satellite radio, need to be on your bluetooth aux input.

Your android phone should be able to do all this aswell as long as its new. New moto x with its always listening deal should have some cool things coming in regards to hands free stuff and bluetooth.

I have a non etune radio as well. Loving that bluetooth! I was going to swap it out and put in an aftermarket, but I am very pleased with all the functionality.. Reading threads now on installing an amp and sub to factory radio =)

Another happy base radio owner here. Functionality of the standard option radio is far and away better than I wanted or expected in my truck. I'm an iOS user for now, nice to know that droid pairs up easily as well.
