I have a 2001 Tacoma Prerunner V6. My torque app is calculating mileage at around 9 or 10 mpg. Is the torque app accurate? Do I need to figure it the old fashion way? What could cause this drop in mileage? I just replaced plugs and wires and upstream O2 sensor. Help!

Don't trust an instrument. Do the old fashioned fill to fill, reset your trip, fill back up and divide the gallons used and tips miles. Then report back. If you were getting that bad of gas mileage, there would be other symptoms.

My ultragauge is consistently 1-2 MPG over my actual.

Do hand calculation. Fill it up the same way at least twice and divide miles into how many gallons you put in. It will be close to what is actual miles you are getting. To get the overall average it needs to be filled up numerous times about 10 times and do a average on all those fill ups. That will be most accurate. One thing is to drive the same way each time and fill up with the same gas station using the same gas each time. Make sure your tires are aired up correct, make sure you have a clean air filter. When was the last time you changed the fuel filter? When was the last time you cleaned the MAF sensor or put a new one in? How about cleaning the throttle body. When was it cleaned? Have you put any Injector cleaner in it? Seafoam is a good one but there or others to use also. You mentioned that the plugs and wires were changed. Did you get the dual electrode?
There are alot of things that could be the culprit of bad gas mileage.
I just hit a few things to do. I am sure someone else will chime in. BamaToy is real good with these Toyota's he knows his stuff.

I have an Ultragauge, and its pretty accurate. Never more than .5 mpg off, usually within .2

If you are only getting about 10mpg, then you'd be getting no more than 200 miles between fill-ups. Is that about right?

If your roads have them use the fog mile markers to see how off your odometer is. Mine is off 1/10th every mile. If I don't adjust for discrepancy I get inaccurate results.

Great advice. I have not cleaned the throttle body or MAF sensor. I don't believe the fuel filter has been changed either. I will do those things, clean injectors and check tire pressure and calculate mileage the old fashion way and report back. Any links to threads about cleaning MAF, changing fuel filter, cleaning throttle body? Thanks.

Ok, I did all of that and reset my trip at last fill up. Let's see how it comes out. Seafoam really didn't smoke too bad. Smoked more after cleaning the throttle body with Seafoam creep and Deep than running seafoam in vacuum line.

Eh, see my Build Thread sig link. Too many mods to list.
265/75R16 - around 14 in town and 19 on highway trips. It'd be nice if it was better.

Of course I keep comparing it in my head to the 31mpg my Civic gets and feel like it's crap....which is crap.

    Over 2500 miles towing a 2500#+ trailer, I got about 16-18 in a 2004 V6 4x4 with 265/75's.

10mpg is stupid low. Your gauge is broken. Do it the old fashioned way.
