2nd generation transmission filler tube A750E

Ok folks , if you dont have a transmission filler tube with a level indicator , would you be interested in purchasing one for your 2nd gen Tacoma ?

If there is enough interest , I may do the group buy plan .

 

I would love to have a fill tube and dipstick but I would have to see how it goes together before I'd commit to anything. The transmission fluid level is supposed to be checked at a certain temp so a simple dipstick might not work (not sure if the transmission has a consistant 'cold fill' mark or not). Personally, I think the way you have to check the transmission fluid level is downright stupid and would love to have a good alternative.

 

Unless you have a noticeable leak, I would see the logic on wanting to know the level. In my case, I would be more interested in a device that can make it easier to check on oil consistency and appearence to know when it needs to be changed.

 

For the most part ,All auto transmissions are checked at operating temp or warm with the engine running and the gear selector in park . You dont need to jump any wires if there is a manual level indicator and filler tube as long as you know the engine is at temp using the engine coolant guage on the dash as a guide or the transmission level indicator is warm to the touch . The transmission is warmed and cooled via the internal radiator transmission oil cooler so we know that our transmissions are give or take 20 degrees difference in comparison to the engine temp .Our engine radiator ,warms up as well as cools down the transmission . If the engine overheats , what happens to the transmission ? it overheats as well .
The proper procedure for checking the fluid on a sealed A750E trans is using jumper wires.You could still use the jumper wire procedure for checking fluid level with an aftermarket filler tube and level indicator .
Adding a filler tube and level indicator to the transmission would eliminate the step of crawling under the truck and using jumper wires to check our fluid . Many Tacoma owners are finding out their transmissions were underfilled directly from the factory .
Adding an aftermarket fill tube with level indicator would also make filling the trans easier not to mention the trans fluid level would be inspected on a regular basis .

 

Can you provide further information or a link to this product? You mention a group buy, but need some more details about the actual product before I'd be willing to commit.


The reasoning behind the poll is to find out how many owners are interested . Aftermarket filler tubes sell for about $50 bucks and require some drilling and bolting but give the owner the same features as a vehicle equipped from factory with a transmission level indicator and fill tube . More details to come .

 

Not only good for checking the fluid level, but also for checking for
burnt-smelling fluid. Or for checking on the presence of coolant, ie
"Strawberry milkshake".

 

If they were sealed units why do they have suggested fluid change intervals? Really the only difference between these and older automatics is the lack of a dipstick. Has a drain plug, fill plug, and a pan that comes off just like any other automatic. Girl shifter, that's funny.

I used the Intelligent tester procedure to identify the proper temperature for checking the fluid .You dont need the intelligent tester to test for the required temperature as long as you know what temperature Toyota recommends the fluid level needs to be taken . In our case with the AW750 , the temp needs to be 96F . An anal thermometer would suffice
