I had a 1997 Silverado purchased new and babied from day one, the hubs separated from the rotors. I was told that it was because two different metals were used. I'd step on the brakes and it would grab the rotor, but the hub kept turning. The 1997 model in a rush to get it out had used the S-10 brakes. They were undersized for that size truck, I believe they were upgraded the following year.

The brake lines rusted out, as I blew through a red light. The exhaust system had to be replaced . . . all in all after putting about $3500 into a truck that was like new and never beat, it was time to say goodbye.

Did I learn my lesson . . noooo. I bought a nice Chevy S-10, again maintained meticuously, and at 45,000 the trans went kaput. I put in a used trans from a wreck and sold that also.

The 2005 RAV4 we have has 91,000 miles and runs like a charm, quiet as a mouse, with no major problems and kept up with routine maintenance. This weekend I may change the wires and plugs, possibly change the trans fluid before the end of the year and we will be good to go for another 100,000.

If my Tacoma follows the same path as the Rav, I will be one happy camper.

"Toyota's investment in the US economy" is commendable, but we're still buying and selling with monopoly money . . .

Helping the economy with this or that is a bandaid. It helps, yes, but it's just treating symptoms; it doesn't cure the disease. Hey, sort of like our medical industry

Really interesting read about that new Silverado. I went through the famed cylinder head issue with my 06 Colorado..still getting BS stories from the 2 dealers and GM, just heard today from the action committee in my area that GM said I can go screw even though they agreed the dealers lied to me several times.
