What's up guys. I'm in the market for a new Tacoma. I know you guys have had major wars on wether to go for the OR or Sports package. I know the differences there. My main issue is wether I should go for the long box or short box. I plan on loading a Yamaha Raptor 700 quite often and the long box would make sense. You think it'll fit the short box too? Maybe if I get the bed extender for the short box I'll be ok???

It'll also be a family truck for camping trips and stuff like that. I'm in SoCAL and don't plan on hard core off-roading but I definitely want the 4x4 minimum. It basically comes down to TRD sport or TRD OR. My final thoughts, I'd prefer to have the locker and not need it, then to need it and not have it. Still a tough choice cause I can't have the long box with the locker. Or am I wrong?

Raptor 700 is 72" in length, you would have to rest it on the tailgate if you're running the shortbox. Long bed comes in handy for home projects too.

No long bed with the TRD OR is correct. I had the short bed OR at first and traded in on a DCLB Sport. Wish I had gotten the longer bed in the first place. The locker can always be added aftermarket from ARB if you find you're getting into situations where you would like to have it. That would also give you onboard air compressor and stuff that would really help on trails.

Based on your post, you are in almost the same boat as me in terms of use...and I chose the DCLB TRD Sport.

We are in a similar scenario and came out of a 4 door 6-1/2' F150. I went with the dclb. I cant see doing much as far as family camping or loading bikes with the shorter bed. It was tight in the F150. The new Toyota is going to be tough.

    DCLB Sport FTW!

or as we like to call them around here, Trail Limos.

Not once have I needed a locking rear. I don't do any sort of crazy offroading but my stock DCLB has been on the beach, down in river beds, and up over a couple passes in CO. With a decent spotter you can go pretty much where you want.
