After checking out my friend's Gen 2 Tacoma, I knew I had to have one. I used to have a 1987 4x4, back when these things were smaller. I never realized they grew from "mini-truck" to "mid-sized" truck.

I need something that'll haul a motorcycle in the bed, but I've been reading about a weak tailgate - will I have to remove my tailgate to load a heavy (600 lbs +) motorcycle with a ramp? (I wouldn't know how to accomplish this, since the tailgate needs to be down to fit the bike in the 6' bed, holding rear tire during transport)

I just don't like the full-size trucks out there, especially from the "Big 3 American" manufacturers.

My dream is a Taco-Sized hauler powered by a diesel engine, but since I live in the United States, that may be impossible - so I'm leaning towards the 4.0L V6.

Is the in-dash navigation standard on 2013 models?

I want the 6-speed manual transmission, but I've been reading about how most people prefer the automatic. I've also read how the newer Toyota trucks aren't built as bullet-proof as they used to be, but since there aren't many options for mid-sized trucks, there's really no other choice. I plan on taking my chances and being extra careful not to beat it up too harshly.

Welcome bud, at least you know what you want. You might want to upgrade your rear leaf packs if you plan on hauling 600 lbs a lot. The stock pack are known to sag under a moderate load. Also I'm not sure if the navi comes standard, I do know a touch screen is standard.

Well, I'm getting scared. I've been doing some research, and reading a lot of scary things about rust and corrosion at http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/toyota_tacoma.html?page=2. Then, I looked up other makes and models, and it seems like every brand has equally low reviews and problems.

Are all new vehicles just not made like they used to be, so my expectations are too high? Or should I be worried?

I'm hoping this forum leads me to put my mind at ease, but now I'm wondering what other options I have. I'm nervous about dropping thirty grand on something that only has a lifespan of 6 years (according to the internet).
