Hey there, I'm looking to purchase a 99 Tacoma v6 4x4 with 91k from a dealer. I have a couple questions regarding negotiations on the price. From looking at the carfax report it doesn't look like the truck has had it's 90k service or had the timing belt replaced. Would it be perfectly reasonable of me to ask/expect the dealer to either do the required services at no cost to me or take the costs of the service off the asking price?

It's been a long time since I bought a vehicle so I'm not sure of the do's and don'ts anymore.

Also from the pics I've seen of the truck there was a light on in the instrument panel. The light was located at the bottom, center of the panel. Which indicator light is that? The truck was running when the pic was taken.

Thanks for the help, looking forward to getting back in a Toyota!

Check the frame for rusting from the inside out. There was a rust-thru warranty for 15 years on those trucks that has recently expired. The last thing you want to do, is buy it ...and have the frame collapse.

I'm not sure if you want to 'trust' the dealership or not - VS - having the truck (frame) inspected by another Toyota dealer before you commit to buying it.

Any yes...You could expect them to do all the maintenance work OR you could negotiate the price of the truck to cover the maintenance costs and actually do the maintenance yourself.

DO NOT buy a truck without seeing it in person & driving it!!!!

Thanks for the tip on the frame.

I'd definitely like to have a Toyota tech inspect the truck, but the nearest shop is 28 miles from the dealer that has the Tacoma. Not sure if I'd be allowed to take it that far. And yes, I definitely will not buy with out seeing the truck in person.

The reason I mentioned another shop - is to get a 2nd opinion. It's obvious, the truck has been 'signed off' to sell it on their lot. I'm not saying the dealer is crooked - but you never know these days. You gotta watch your back....

    I don't know where you're from.....
Take notice (on carfax) where the truck is from and where its spent most of its life. A truck from northern snow belt states (salt, etc) VS a truck from southern states....will affect frame condition.

Clean title? Not a Re-constructed title...

    For sure, thanks.

If I'm reading the report correctly then the title is clean with one owner and yes, the truck has spent its life up north.
