I have had a toolbox in my Tacoma since I got it because it came in it but it takes up too much room in the bed, what do you guys think of the tool boxes

Some of this Some of that
I like tool boxes, it's nice to be able to lock up tools or whatever. My 5ft bed is too small for one though. It's jut Barely big enough now

I have a BetterBuilt box back there and could not live without it..:D

It is low-pro so it does not obstruct my view at all and as you see in 2nd pic and when washing the cab it becomes a step for my short legs ;)

If you "Search" in here you will find some TW"s have found the smaller, thinner version of these or gone to fender boxes also....

I could NOT put everything from that box into my cab interior as that SPACE is at a premium also...

Tough decision for you OP Good luck making something work either way...

I've also got a Better Built (w/a Kobalt tag on it, since I got it at Lowe's). It's a low-profile slimline in my DCSB's 5' bed. I converted from an F-150 with a regular-sized toolbox, so I had to leave a few items out...pretty much the extra, unnecessary items. The only reason I'd lose the box is if I threw a shell on the back of the truck. Even then, I'd have a utility box strapped down in the back.

I'd MUCH rather throw my tools and extras in there, rather than in the cab.

I could not live without my toolbox. It's full of everything that I carry around, especially being in college, having my tools close is a needed thing.

I don't have any pics right now, since the one in my signature isn't the one I have now, but it's a Husky from Home Depot and I love it.

    Found one picture.

That's only half of the stuff I have in there

Ratchet set with a bazillion sockets
    ratchet straps
    wrenches
    screwdrivers

    jack
    jack stands
    tow strap
    rope
    tarp
    gloves
    fix a flat
    spray paint
    can of tuna
    gallon water
    oil
    throttle body cleaner
    extra clothes
    shoes
    jacket

I wanted something that cold hold all the things I needed in a tool box but didn't go over the bed rails because I like to put the canopy back on in the fall/winter for hunting...
I ordered this tool box off of Amazon:

Still have room to slide something the full length of the bed (wood, rifles, etc.)

I love my tool box that goes from bedside to bed side, it sits under the rail of the bed. But I would like one that sits on the bed rails.

I have a DC so the bed is very short. I just keep 3 long straps with me to tie down anything else I want.

Love my custom made tool box.. designed and built by a TTORA member (JFAB).
Designed to be hard to break into or remove, designed to be below bottom edge of rear window.
Only wished I had requested it to be a little deeper to house a battery.

There's no way i'll have a toolbox. I have a double cab so the bed is small enough as it is. If anything i'll have a small toolbox in the cab or bolted to the side of the bed somewhere.

Well I currently don't have a tool box but I am scouring the web as we speak because my cab is filled with shit like first aid, tools, recovery stuff, extra cloths, and welding gear. I want one really bad but havnt found it in my heart to pay $200 for something I can build for $50

Hey tejasyota could you give me some specs on your box like the handles, metal width, and anything else that might be helpful?

Haha me too. This thread has got me thinking how nice it would be to have less stuff cluttering the cab of my truck.

I've been looking at some wheel well storage boxes which look like they wouldn't take up much room, and be big enough to hold the things i need it to like a tarp, first aid, a few essential tools, rags etc.

Ya the wheel wells wouldn't cut it for me  too much clutter, plus I actually like the looks of the tool boxes for some reason

I've had 6 trucks, all with toolboxes. I'm not gonna have a socket set and tools jingling around in my cab. Rode for a week with all my shit inside the cab when i first got it until i snagged a toolbox. They've all been UWS "over the rail" style. Trucks don't look complete unless they have a toolbox; unless its a double cab with a retardedly small bed.

I would LOVE to have a toolbox. Don't have the money for one. I saw one at Pepboys that was shallow so I could fit stuff underneath if needed for $189. Already have a hand tool box for tools but it sits on the floor behind my seat so if I have passengers, I have nowhere to put it. Plus, I have blankets and tarps to cover things in my bed if it rains for example, but nowhere to store them. So I have to keep them at home until needed.
