I made this post in another thread recently, but I'd like to post it again. Please read the links for your truck's own safety and good luck to all of you with the serious rust.

I suggest you read through this thread, OP. The did some pretty solid testing with various fluids and took lots of pictures for evidence. I've coated my truck with Amsoil HDMP. It smelled like crayons for the first few days, but I feel better having my frame coated.

    http://www.amazon.com/Internal-Frame.../dp/B003NTPE9W

If you plan on undercoating your truck yourself, look into picking up a can of Eastwood's internal frame coating. It's not for the coating itself, but the spray attachment that comes with it. I coated the entirety of my frame, inside and out, with the hose attachment and HDMP. Good luck with your frame, OP."

    I think not!
A good mechanic will point out any work that might be needed.
They are paid by Toyota when doing a frame replacement. No reason to hide anything.

Just got my truck back from Toyota and they said is isn't too bad but might want to sell it in a year or 2 before it gets too bad. I am going to take it to someone else and see what they have to say. This is BS because i didn't buy this truck to only have for 8-9 years. I was hoping to get a lot more out of it.

Since my last post I waited for the manager of the service department to call me back, after 2 weeks I went in early on a Saturday. He was zero help he sat there and let the lady service manager answer all the questions. After I asked him to contact the regional field manager to ask him to look at my frame and tell me that Toyota doesn't have a frame problem. He said he would call them and call me that day. It has been three weeks and he has not called me or returned any of my weekly calls. Toyota has totally dropped the ball. Some states have replaced rusted frames for free other states seem to ignore the problem. Yet I still receive emails that Toyota want my truck and will pay 120% KBB trade in value.

Meh.. I've heard those "mechanics" say "it's a toyota, that's normal rust for a Toyota!" pointing at a 6 month old taco with a completely rust covered frame that looks worse than my 99. They usually say things like that somewhere around the time they realized they just drove a customers truck out and parked it in the parking lot without putting any oil in after an oil change.

I personally don't trust any mechanic unless he owns his own business and therefore his business is his name and he has worked for at least 10 years to build up his reputation as a good mechanic. I do NOT trust the 18 year old pot heads in the toyota dealership that got stoned and watched some videos on how to wrench on a truck and got a trade certification as a mechanic at Toyota.

I'm sure there are probably some good people working for Toyota but so far I haven't met em'.

Sigh... I guess I'm in a piss mood tonight sorry about the rant...

I spent last week power washing, wire brushing etc my frame.
None of it was terribly bad, but, the factory paint really wasn't there anymore to any great degree.
Then I prepped it, primed it with Rust Encapsulator, and the hit it with chassis paint.

Here's the Eastwood kit I used, it seems like it's good stuff:

    http://www.eastwood.com/satin-full-frame-and-suspension-kit.html

Mine's an 05 Access Cab 4x4. I hope this keeps the frame intact for a great good long time. There was enough to do the rear axle and front suspension bits as well.

I have a friend who owns a 05 Tacoma PreRunner who just found out his truck's frame is rusting out. He contacted Toyota and found out that there's a recall for Tacoma's up to 2004 and was told there was nothing that could be done for him. I have been researching this problem and was told that all owners who are experiencing this problem with later model Tacoma's should file a complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at www.nhtsa.gov. The more complaints they receive the faster they will become aware of the problem. Please let others know about this. We need to get Toyota to recall all Tacoma trucks.

    AHH! My drivers side

Scraped/brushed all I could out and drenched it in primer and paint.

The very fact that you actually have some black paint left has me jealous.

Corp isn't going to care about this until there is official policy. As there is no policy you get the response you got.

People, not just me, are getting traction with dealers. Did I miss why you won't take this to a dealership?

Toyota corp is having a local dealer setup an apt for me to bring the truck in. At least it will be documented.
