I was halfway kidding with my father in law who sells playground equipment. the other day, as I help him load up and told him I need 4 of the big springs that are on the little spring animal things and he said I could have them ha. if u put a bolt plate on top and bottom and bolted it in securely would there be any negative effects? It does make sense that the ride would b better and traction should also improve with the added down force right? The only issue I can see is if lifted you much it might mess ur. shocks up. could someone please shed some more light on this before I talk muselfvinto trying it.

    I wonder what's better.

Old land cruisers had front leafs I think, and 4runners have rear springs.
Not sure of the pros/cons as to rear leafs vs rear springs

There is absolutely no reason why that wouldn't work and anyone that states it wouldn't work doesn't have a clue what they're writing/talking about. I don't give a f___ what other people think of my opinions. I wouldn't do it on my truck though. Anything that isn't standard issue TW gets blasted here on TW.

Leafs are springs too. Correct terminology would be "I wonder if leaf springs or coil springs are better?" The answer is coil springs are better. Leaf springs biggest benefit is cost of the suspension.

JC Whitney used to sell "helper springs" that were coil springs you could attach to your sagging leaf springs. That's a country-ass fix. I carelessly bought a 1966 Mustang with the rear end only held up by helper springs. That thing was a rust bucket and dangerous to have on the road.

Dampening is controlled by the shocks, not the springs. A coil spring above a leaf spring is exactly like an air bag above a leaf spring but the coil spring isn't adjustable like an airbag.
