I'm tired of having to blow dirts and salts through to the Engine compartment when I do high pressure wash so here's my attempt to cover up those gaping holes that Toyota failed. I'd expect a $35K truck to have some minimal covers to keep all the dirt and salts away from the engine compartment but nope, Toyota has been too lazy to do anything about it. Here is my feeble attempt to fix it.

Curious if affects engine cooling and what happens when it starts coming loose and catches a tire?

I use drawer liner for my experimentation. I got it from Harbor Freight. It looks and feels like it's going to last. Longivity may be an issue as it is not an all weather type of material. I tried to soak it in water for several hours to see if it would obsorb water like a sponge but it didn't. I tried using pond liner but that material is thin, flexible, and too heavy for it. I'm still in the search for something better in quality.

I doubt it would affect engine cooling. If it come loose, I'm sure its going to shred apart easily. I'll look for better material and drill holes to make it more secure if necessary.

Good idea, I've thought of doing something similar.
Try looking on this site, you might find some materials more durable, if need be. You could probably build a time machine with everything on this site.

Is it to cut down on sound? Why do you need it there? It looks fine I think but it looks like it already has a riveted liner.

EDIT: Yea it would help to read the thread title. To cut down on engine salt and stuff.

No mud flaps, plasti dipped emblems, and rear bumper, Weather tech digital fit, Bed mat from tractor supply. Pioneer 4400BH head unit. B.A.M.F bed rail tie downs. AVS vent visors.
not bad. i would use something different though. something fire retardant/resistant at least. they have a splash guard there but i wish it covered better then it does.

I'd like to get a light weight all weather type of material and fire retardant. The question is.....where can I find it?

I went to the Tractor store, Home Depot, Manards, and several local auto part stores but they don't have anything that would work.

Thought I saw someone here on the forum do the same thing but instead used sheet metal. I thought it looked alright, definitely stronger than the factory rubber sheet.

Here's a more specific link to sheet rubber on mcmaster.. It gives a good description of each type and what it is good for, also lets you choose specific thickness etc. If you have any question or need help choosing, I would call Mcmaster, they should be helpful and knowledgeable in helping you choose.

    http://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-rubber-sheets/=o73gyf

Also if you like how what you've already done fits etc. I would use it as a pattern for the new material whenever you get it.
