    ok, seriusly now…
-tints… 1. they do help w the sun, and 2. if you are on long road-trips you may make pit stops in un-familiar places and tint provide a lil privacy while your belongins are un-attended.

Lots of good ideas here but one thing I didn't see posted was seat covers. Some like the stock seats just fine but I didn't really fit and was never truly comfortable in the seat. I put a set of Clazzio leather seat covers on and they made a huge difference, mainly because they have a half inch of memory foam under the cover.

You need a GF to help with the road head mod.

It helps with those long trips.

    Grease u joints & inspect CV's
    Change all fluids (oil/tranny/both diffs/transfer-case/rad)
Check tie rods, ball joints, wheel bearings
    Check rad belt & pulleys
Lube lower control arm cam bolts / get alignment
check spare tire/get familiar with changing a tire

Buy a Haynes Manual and keep it in the truck with a basic set of tools.

I always keep spare pulleys & fan belt in my ride. They fit easily in one of the rear under-seat storage bins. To save cash I just use my old belt/pulleys as truck spares.

This does make long trips much better

I built my truck for long road trips here are my mods:

    -Clazzio heated seats
    -tint
-camper shell with yakima roof rack so I can put a cargo box on top
    -5100s front and rear
-Skyjacker rear leaf spring pack (TRD off road suspension felt way too soft for me)
    -Pioneer DVD Nav Avic-x940bt
    -AFE CAI

As long as it's been well maintained I wouldn't worry about 146k miles. My 96 had 260k on it and I would have driven it anywhere at a moments notice. But it was never hammered on and extremely well maintained it's entire life. I would seriously consider replacing the rear springs though. I had one snap on mine a month ago out of the blue. But the stock springs were really saggy at 122k anyhow. I love Bilsteins but I've never considered them to be a really "comfortable" shock. They tend to be a bit stiff. I haven't had 5100's but my first second gen I put HD's in and they weren't soft. For long trips quiet tires, a nice stereo, secure storage, comfortable seats, and a copilot who doesn't annoy you are key.
