Okay guys a new issue has appeared. So since I put the PC together, I have had my sound working through the HDMI cable plugged into my GPU. (My computer is just plugged into my flatscreen tv until I get a monitor) I didn't have to do anything to setup the sound, it just worked. Since the build, I have been using my headphones on several occasions just because I can. Well now I can't get the sound to work on the tv. WHen I plug in headphones it works fine, but when I unplug it won't play anything through the tv. I have been screwing with the settings trying to figure out where to turn it on and I can't figure it out.

Probably have to reboot for the HDMI to handshake on audio.

I have rebooted two or three times since then, still nothing. I had to hook up an old crappy set of pc speakers in order to hear anything, unless I put a headset on.

Anyone else know how I can fix this? The sound from these old speakers is terrible...

I fixed the audio problem finally and now have a new problem. This is what all my videos look like, on youtube or anywhere.

Everything is black. I have tried youtube videos and fb vids, nothing shows up. On fb it just has the loading symbol but I can hear the audio. On youtube I am able to click play/pause, even though its not visible. Is something in my video settings screwed up?

I have already rebooted, didn't fix anything.

Edit: I just tried video on msn.com and it worked fine. What the hell is going on.
Edit #2: Youtube videos work when I hit fullscreen... but I would like them to work small, or fb to work....

Okay well my youtube videos randomly started working before I had the chance to try the fixes suggested, which works for me. But now ANOTHER problem. My headphone jack won't work! It has worked fine ever since I built the pc. Whenever I plugged anything in before something would pop up on screen, but now nothing will even pop up. I don't see how any wiring would have came loose when I haven't moved the pc tower at all.

Try right clicking the speaker icon in your task bar. Go to set default device, a new window will pop up. Select the device you want and then click set default.

I use this to go between USB head phones and speakers on my machine.

Go to settings, sound and audio.

You need to reactivate the audio driver for the HDMI. you'll have several options. What are they and which one is active?

I got the hdmi part to work again, I had hit the wrong button when screwing with settings. But now the headphone jack won't work and I know I didn't screw that up...

Again. Just a audio driver selector. You can usually only have one active output. So either it'll be the HD HDMI output or the computer audio outputs.

It says the HDTV and the speakers are active. I don't even have speakers hooked up, but I think it means the audio jack in the back. There is no option for a front audio jack so I'm not sure How I would enable it

There should just be a normal audio driver. The TV is the HDMI output so its routing the audio there. To get it back to the front jack just try the normal speakers.

Only way you could use head phones is if you have an external amp setup (i.e. a receiver) that your DVD play, xbox, cable and everything gets plugged into then has one output to the tv. You could hook your HDMI output to the amp(usually 5.1 too so would be sweet) and then use the head phone jack on the receiver.

But to use the computer jack. You need to disable the HDMI output and reactivate the normal speaker output.

I just played a test tone thing through the headphones and it worked, but I have music playing and can hear nothing. Do I somehow have audio enabled in ONLY the HDMI input? even then, shouldn't the test not work through my headphones?

Edit: Nvm I posted this before I read your comment, I disabled the HDMI and the headphones worked fine. What I don't get is that they worked fine together before... why wouldn't they now..

Shouldn't I be able to have the hdmi automatically disable itself when I plug in something else? I can take a screenshot

Ill have to fire up my rig again(on my mac) but you might be able too. All depends on the MOBO, audio card(internal/external) and GPU drivers.

i will say..im am not a fan of AMD products at all..so might not be big help there..i run Intel/Nvida..

Here is a screenshot, I had to take two because I couldn't make the window bigger to show both devices. These are the only two enabled.
