Hey Gang , I'm new here but not new to tacomas 1. what does the a/c amplifier actually do ? 2. i had a strange a/c problem , my fuse was blown , i replaced it , to only blow again, I traced short to my a/c field coil . I removed clutch and found my field coil was melted, I replaced clutch assembly and field coil because my system did not lose charge and my compressor would spin freely. Now my new field coil burned up as well . before it completely melted i ducked under hood and seen clutch barley spinning (while engine running a/c on) is this common for tacoma's to have a compressor not lock up until it runs a bit? it was clearly free but after runs a bit it must be locking up or expansion valve flooding ?

Hey man... I'm an idiot and can't quite understand what you mean by "barely spinning" and "locking up". Do you mean that the compressor does not engage until after you turn on your AC for a bit? Does barely spinning mean that it spins slowly or for a short amount of time?

Either way, it does not sound typical. When I engage my AC, the compressor turns on right when I engage. On some days, the compressor will run for a relatively short amount of time before turning back off... and cycle like that.

I'm not sure I'm helping here...

i had a shorted field coil,i opted to replace whole clutch, took old one off, sure enough field coil was melted and bare wires of coil rubbed on compressor,my clutch bearing went out. was the cause.

replaced it and it blew cold in few seconds. so i shut it off and not drive ir until monday to go to work. well after few miles fuse blew again.

i popped hood replaced fuse, compressor engaged then i seen clutch moving like in slow motion....building heat and bam field coil melted all over my pulley again.

prior to this i could spin compressor fine with just enough resistance to know it has compression so to speak...thats why i only replaced clutch..i fugured compressor ok ..excuse typing im new to tablets...they are better for reading than typing long paragraphs
