    This is my dilema:

I dripped some Duplicolor touch up paint on my headlight when I was touching up the hood.

I took a shop towel and tried to wipe it off but I only made a big smudge.

What can I use to remove the paint without f-ing up the headlight?

    Thanks guys.

Lowes sell's a product called lift off for removing excess paint, believe it's plastic safe. I'd avoid mineral spirits or paint thinner on plastic. I think the Lift Off stuff runs about $5 or $6 for a regular windex sized spray bottle.

They use some stuff at the dealership to remove overspray..I can't remember what it's called. They got some overspray on my headlight and I told them to take it off and they did.

Mineral spirits. Or you can do the spray and wipe fix. I usually get a can of carburator cleaner and spray to soak on a shop towel. Then I get a microfiber towel and soak it in a solution of dish soap and water. First I wipe with the shop towel then with soap towel right after to neutralize the chemicals before they eat on the clear coat or plastic of your lights.

This. Most solvents will eat away plastic. I would try dish soap and elbow grease, a good degreaser maybe, or rubbing alcohol is usually safe on most plastics.

I've used lacquer thinner on plenty of plastic things, lights included. As long as you're careful with it it should be fine. If you're worried test it in an area that's not noticeable.

It also depends on what kind of plastic. Thinner does eat through plastics, if you only use a little bit and make sure you clean it all off quickly then it would be fine. I have melted plastic with thinner and acetone before haha.

Well guys, I didn't use any paint thinners and went with a clay bar.

The clay bar took the majority of it off and then I used Spray 9 with a bug sponge that took off the rest.

I would suggest this method if this happens to you too.
