    Hi guys,

I just got a new 2013 Taco TRD Offroad package in super white. It has the touch screen radio in it, but I don't see an option for satellite radio. I was under the impression that all of the new Tacos had that capability, was I wrong?

And also, can a taco without navigation be retrofitted with nav? Thanks guys and gals.

Not quite sure. How would one find out?

Sorry, I'm very new to Tacos, and toyotas in general. Thank you!

If the dealership didn't tell you, you may not have it. I personally don't have it so I can't really say. I am trying to look online.

I think satellite is only on the ones with JBL/Navigation.

I don't think it's easily retrofittable. I usually just use my iphone and it connects the audio through bluetooth. Every time a voice prompt comes up, it looks like a call is coming in. Or if I'm listening to music through bluetooth it just comes through at the same time. Same if I've hooked up through the USB.

Check if there's a subwoofer enclosed behind your passenger rear seat. The sound quality alone would make it pretty obvious but I understand you may not have compared with and without Entune/JBL.

Looks like I do not have Entune, which is disappointing...

I am a big fan of good car audio, so coming from my 13 maxima with the Bose system to the Taco without Entune hurts. I had to get a truck pretty quickly, so I made a buying decision spur of the moment which wasn't super smart. I still love the truck most definitely though.

I guess in a few years I can trade this truck in for the Taco of my dreams. it'll give me something to look forward to.

Anyway, thanks for the info and links everyone. I've been learning a lot from this forum, so I am appreciative. :)

I got SXM installed for $600 through the dealership. The stock touchscreen is expandable with empty ports.

Shouldn't be hard to get an aftermarket touch screen and some speakers/amp that will blow away the "Bose" in your old Maxima.

I don't think a poor sound system would make me even think about trading a vehicle in. Considering for a fraction of the cost of getting a new vehicle you can have it upgraded with far superior components. Just my .02.

That sounds like something I'm interested in. Wonder if you can also upgrade the stereo components and speakers?

I've thought about that, but most aftermarket systems look cheesy. I haven't really seen any clean looking touch screens, but admittedly I haven't really looked hard.

Best Buy & maybe some local car stereo shops can easily install an aftermarket Sirrius or XM radio module for around $100. It won't integrate with your factory stereo, and you may not like the look of that module--most are fugly.

VAIS also sells add-on sat stereo kits that WILL integrate with stock Toyota stereos, which may be another more expensive option @ $250-350 or so.

Of course, you will then need to subscribe to either XM or Sirrius.

As blueitrgsr mentioned, you can really improve your sound system by swapping out the stock speakers for some better ones for a few hundred bucks.

I will probably go with the one that can be integrated.

I've read on this forum that a lot of the aftermarket speakers didn't sound well with the stock head unit. Is that true?

I got one of the portable units with a car mount. It is a neat little touch screen, and I mounted it on the bottom right of the center console, between the storage area and the glove box. It's a little bigger than a horizontally mounted iPhone. I was able to route the antenna (magnetic) and all wires so that they are hidden in dash until the last few inches. The unit plugs into the aux. If you are only planning on keeping the truck for a couple of years, then this might be a good option. You can remove a little adhesive from one of the interior pieces and it's back to stock to sell. I have had built in satellite on my last two vehicles and I have been surprised how well this worked. All in all about $130 at best buy, and around 20 minutes to mount.
