I recently did the stock carb to Weber 32/36 swap (on my 1981 Toyota Pickup) and did away with all the vacuum stuff except for the one from the distributor to the carb base and about that time the charge light came on. I took the alternator off and checked it and it tested good but a bearing was a little grabby so I replaced it and the light was still on so I changed the voltage regulator and the light is still on. It will go dead if you take the battery cable off so where would you guys suggest to check next?
    Voltage at battery:
    Key off: 13.02
    Key on engine off: 12.88
    Engine on: 12.45

Thanks everybody for your help. I finally got it figured out. After insuring the alternator and voltage regulator were good I started chasing wiring and connectors. I didn't have to go far, in the wire from the alternator up to the voltage regulator there is (was) a small fusible link and it was bad. The strange thing about it is that the Haynes Manual wiring diagram does not show it at all. The local Toyota Stealership Service Dept. had never seen one there. I bought the Truck new from the Stealership back home in Mississippi so nobody had hacked the wiring. Another good thing is when it started running off the alternator instead just the battery it smoothed out it's idle and is smooth running now.
