Just installed TruTrac in my 11' sr5. I swear by it , 10 times better than limited slip from toyota. For it to work take you trac control off by holding the button for about 3 seconds. Install took me about 3 hours. Dont forget to order new bearings before you start the old ones you will probably ruin taking off.

So the factory traction control still works with a TrueTrac?

That has always been my concern.. Is there any way to get the Traction Control Module to default to the off position on start up??

As it is I am getting in the habit of activating the Auto LSD upon start up..

    Thanks

For those who have Truetracs (F, R, or both)
-I've read that it is awesome in the snow and that it pushes in turns too much in snow; any clarification? Good or bad experiences?
-Was the front TT affect on turn radius substantial/notable?
    -Any downsides not previously noted?
-Anything else one should know who is installing a TT or two?

This is what I plan on getting myself for Christmas for the 93 Pickup and plan on doing front and rear with a 4.56 regear.

We pulled a Jeep out in the woods that had TrueTrac, he was off camber and on opposite tires on the side of the road. Thats my only 'experience' with it. Wasn't impressed. His tires would not lock up at any amount of traction, we stacked rocks, shifted weight. Nothing.

I see snow half of the year every year, mud quite often, and only lift a tire or climb something steep maybe a dozen times a year tops. So a locker isn't as good as LSD for my application and DDing on road, highway and snow. I'm getting these, just like an abundance of feedback, info, pros n cons. All over the interwebs seems to be consistent that everyone loves them and a few people actually say it oversteers them or something.

I'm finally going to begin my Truetrac installation(before winter). I need a good Factory manual as the Ebay ones are garbage. Can anyone suggest a good manual?

Pulled my 3rd and took it and the Truetrac/new bearings to a very highly recomended shop. They installed it for $110. I bought a new gasket (third menber to axle housing)from the dealer and it was so tight 2 of the holes tore out on the studs. Is this common? I am very concerned it will leak. I know it is the correct gasket.
    Tks

I'm looking at adding the eaton trutrac to my 11 TRD Sport. I'm tired of the wheels spinning at the slightest amount of throttle. My 05 with the mechanical lsd didn't have this issue......

How does the TrueTrac compare to Auto LSD that's standsrd on our 2nd gens?

The ALSD does quite well for snow and ice on the road. My concern is offroad where the ALSD function requires a certain amount of wheel spin to engage and put power to the other wheel. This excess wheel spin can slow your forward motion and eventually stop you because of the delay of ALSD. This is also a huge hinderence on steep inclines or hills. I'm looking to resolve this.

Does the TrueTrac work instantly all the time so I can keep my forward speed in mud or snow, or does it require wheels spin to lock up? I know the TrueTrac isn't a full locker, but how would it stack up on steep inclines or gravel hills?

Also, I wonder how the TrueTrac would be effected with the ALSD switched on during a low traction situation?

I had a Trutrac on all my silverado trucks (my 13 TRD is first non-GM) and loved them. I did not install them myself but when i bought them i went ahead and got the ring gear as well, even if i stayed with same ratio which cost maybe $150... ive hit them with 150+ shot out of the hole on a full slick and never had an issue with any of them. drove it to and from the track many times and they were also my daily drivers... ive thought about putting one in the taco just because it seems a little weak in the rear

I had a set in the jeep for about 6 months. Really awesome in everything but rocks. They still slip like an open when you lift a tire. Install was easy. The rear went really fast because it was a c clip axle and I didn't have to press the bearings on and off while doing shims. Front took a while. I know it's not the same as a taco but having a removable 3rd member should make it even easier. Just make sure you get it perfect, as "good enough" can bite you in the ass later.

Given the cost, time, and labor you will see little to no benefit of the detroit over the stock LSD. If you were to blow the stock unit up, it may be cool to put one in.

I have a TrueTrac Front and Rear on my 89 Jeep Cherokee with 4.10 gears and 31" tires. It is a goat and plows through snow covered roads/ dirt/ sand/ hills...
    I don't do rock crawling so I don't need a full locker.
One tire can still spin on occasion. When it does, just put brake pressure until the tension/friction locks both wheels and then its good to go. There are gears that lock into place when there is a load on the differential.

FYI... A Detroit is not a TrueTrac. A Detroit is a full locker. A TrueTrac is a gear driven Limited Slip. Both are made by Eaton. A full locker can be dangerous on ice and requires skilled driving. A full locker is the best for rock crawling when one tire lifts off the ground.

The comparison between the factory electronic LSD or AUTO LSD that we are given in the 2nd gen from 2010 and up compared to the Detroit truetrac is a HUGE difference. As long as both wheels are touching they work together but dont push like a locker would. I see about 20% variance allowed which would allow for a full lock turn with the DCLB before "skipping" or "chirping" the inside tire. I am going many places in 2wd where I would have lost traction and momentum unless i used 4hi before. I am looking for the same LSD in the front diff of my 2015 right now. working on what is needed for the 8 inch IFS unit. with 2 torsion units and the possibility of light brake applications in time of need you would mirror a H1 Hummer drivetrain as they used the same system.
Cost is under half of the ARB air locker alone but you made a mistake in your wording. a Detroit locker is a mechanical locker and locks fully under power. IE you would see a huge benefit from this. If its assumptions that are made that only lockers are worthwhile then people really need to learn how to drive what they have as in most cases a duel LSD vehicle is pretty much unstoppable if driven properly. especially with Torsion LSD which is much stronger then a Clutch LSD system.

1st gen tacoma's can use a 7.5" front diff LSD from Eaton.
again working on the 2nd gen 8" hoping that the rear 8" version from the 1st gen tacoma will work or that they have another one that would match as its just a carrier.
