Hey guys, don't really want to write the whole story out so in short i was an idiot and bottomed out the truck hard enough to deploy both curtain airbags and driver seatbelt lock in my 09 RC. No other airbag went off but like it should it threw a code in the airbag module. I talked to a buddy that owns a collision shop and he said that with some toyota's, even if just one airbag goes off, they have to replace the whole system for it to work again.

Has anybody had experience with just replacing one or a few airbags, in other words, mixing airbags with the other factory bags that came with the truck and having the system accept it? If i do this the airbags that would go in would be from another 09 RC.

Can our airbag modules be cleared of their codes for them to work again?

    Any advice is appreciated.

I'm far from an expert on Airbags, but I know for a fact that the entire system doesn't have to be replaced.

The deployed air bags will need to be replaced, the activated seat belt restraint will need to be replaced and the SRS Controller will need to be reset.

I'm sure you know this, but I can't say this enough - don't punk out and get some aftermarket airbags. Spend the money and get the real deal. Your life will depend on it one day.

But yeah, you don't have to replace the whole system.

    Build thread coming soon!
Toyota designed their systems for trucks well enough that after you change just what's deployed, they don't even need to go to the dealer to get reprogrammed... if everything checks out in the system, the components "shake hands" and it's good to go!
I never would have believed it, but I saw it on an '11 Tundra Platinum we fixed... I wish all automakers were this smart!

On my Wifes 98 Sienna we replaced the seat belt restraint and it had to be reset by the dealer. Of course that was a while back... I am sure they have improved since then. There have also been occasions on the older Tacoma trucks where the the dealer had to reset the system due to the ignition being turned on during the course of the head unit replacement with the Seat Belt Control Module being disconnected... And the SRS Controller threw a code.

The light would go out if the parts were replaced but I would take it to the dealer to get scanned and erase any "history" codes if there are any.
