open headers on a 4 banger?

Pro's and con's?

 

You wouldn't gain much performance unless you supercharged your engine and had a cat back exhaust

 

All you would do is burn the valves up.

 

Loud.....I know of one around where I live, it sound like a fast lawnmower

 

It will kill the motor unless the motor is built specifically to run an open header. It will have no power and sound like shit. I don't know of any pros doing this just cons on a street vehicle.

 

If there is too little back pressure all the exhaust won't come out of the piston. Back pressure for vehicles is a balancing act too much and less performance too little and less hp.

 

You tell us.

What have you heard? Why would you even consider this bad idea?

 

I'd never run open headers on anything but my drag car, it is made for it and gives it all the flow in the world with zero restrictions. On a street vehicle, it would be pointless, not to mention illegal. You must have something that resembles a muffler under there, save your money and throw some Magnaflows under that bad girl and you will have something that sounds good!

 

correct what you need is to get as close to 0 backpressure as you can without slowing the velocity of the exhaust pulses.
