Thought this post could help others...

Stock 2008 TRD Sport 6-Speed Manual w/Stock Alarm with a perfect battery.

    History:

I've been using a single dealer key for the past 8-13 months. I noticed the truck start to behave oddly after about a month or so of not using the keyless entry. Suddenly the truck auto locks itself after the ignition turns on and unlocks (never has done this in the past and bought new) when truck is turned off, and when locking and unlocking the vehicle the truck gives a random audible honk. Sometimes it's a rapid 5-8 honks in a row and sometimes it's 1 honk and others it's just silent. Also on occasion when the truck is locked and I try to open the door from the outside the alarm sounds...I jump in, start the truck and alarm turns off. All is good.

    Issue:

The other day I lock the truck with the single dealer issued key and the truck returns a rapid succession of 5 beeps. It hasn't done that in a few weeks or so and thought it was strange. I return to the truck 8 hours later and unlock it with my key and the alarm sounds. I jump in to start it and turn the alarm off and the ignition anti-theft is not allowing me to turn the truck on.

Toyota service tech told me to cycle the ignition 5 times to silent the vehicle which will allow me to start it. I try to no success. I disconnect the battery... reconnect and alarm is still going off. Still unable to start truck. Disconnect the battery and leave it over night. Service Tech tells me I need the keyless entry or FOB to turn alarm off. (I don't have one)

    Pseudo-Remedy:

I return to the truck the following morning (expecting to flatbed truck to dealer 65 miles away) reconnect the battery... alarm is still sounding, disconnect and pull horn relay to troubleshoot again in silence. Reconnect battery and the VEHICLE STARTS. Install horn relay and alarm still sounding. Yank relay and drive to dealer for a $277.00 visit for a FOB and spare key. Yay. No Toyota Service Tech had any idea of why this happened.

The truck operates perfect other then the odd auto-locking and horn noises associated with locking and unlocking. Do I have a progressive electrical issue? Or is this par for the course. What do the EXPERTS think?

Hope this helps people who may be stranded out in the middle of nowhere.
