Hey guys, so I got this keeper recovery strap at my local o'reillys for about $30. Any thoughts about if I should keep it? Mostly planning to use it this winter when the snow starts falling. Apparently it stretches and isn't that what I would want for the snow? And hey its got a Tacoma on the package so it has to be good!

Yeah, it looks like a good strap.......... I personally have an overhead load strap, that one is rated for 30,000 overhead. Yours looks like one I had before, it held up real well.

I always used straps like that for the longest time. Then I recently bought an ARB recovery strap and it's amazing. When you pull somebody out you feel absolutely no jarring whatsoever compared to many other straps.

That's more of a simple tow strap and not a proper recovery strap. The packaging is misleading unfortunately.

That's kind of what I thought, but wasn't sure. True recovery straps are completely different material.

Looking at Amazon it says that your arb strap is 100% Nylon. Amazon for the keeper one says it also is 100% nylon and also has the same stretch factor as the arb (20%). Here is the amazon link for the keeper. http://www.amazon.com/Keeper-02922-Vehicle-Recovery-Strap/dp/B00004Y61S Do you guys think that that is false advertising though?

Maybe it's just as good. But ARB has been in the game for years, and yes they're expensive but now that I have one I'll never go back to the cheaper one.

Sure..that keeper strap rated at 7000lbs would be ideal for a UTV. No way would it be suited for snatching a tacoma from snow, mud, or rocks safely. Think about it..the strap you have is rated at 7000lbs, what would be the force or kenitic energy applied to that strap if you were yanking another tacoma from a stuck situation? What should be more suitable but more importantly..safer to use?

 I didn't even see that haha Yes, 7,000lbs would be good for a tow strap, but not a recovery strap. The ARB is rated for 17,500lbs

Now i may be wrong here but on the packaging it lists a 7,000 pound max vehicle weight. It has 15,000 pounds listed which i assume is the break strength. I am thinking about the arb anyway though. Just looking at the pictures you can tell it is way better quality. Being in highschool with a part time job money is tight though. PCbuilder is there anything you don't like about it?

This has to be a good strap, there's a pic of a Tacoma on the package! Lol
It actually looks a little too thin IMO

Haha I understand what you mean. I never would have spent $60 on a strap in high school. I bought one of those $30 tow straps to use...

There is honestly nothing I don't like about it. It's very light, very easy to see, also my favorite color haha like I said, it's one of the best straps I've ever had.

    OP,

That strap is a "good" starting point and as funds allow ,upgrade then...;)

A $30 strap in time of need is better than NO STRAP...

You are getting great advice BUT also remember most of us started right where your are now....I personally carry 1 of each; tow strap,10,000 lbs.recovery strap and my 12' 3/8" chain PLUS looking at attachments for each like a "transit cluster" ( A Bill Burke special)..

Again ,great starting point...now build upon that....If you play your cards right and save the $$$$$ when you purchase a winch, that ARB Recovery Kit could be FREE....:D

Sonar people are uneducated on the subject of straps and recovery gear.

Get a strap rated for YOUR truck, don't get "the biggest strap I could find".

Depends on what you're using it for. A static recovery, or dynamic etc.

    Do your research.

Yeah man that's kind of what I was thinking. Use this for now and if it ends up not being good enough or I have some extra money to spend upgrade later.
