I have a older (2008) HP desktop. It runs fine until it gets hot. Then when goes into sleep mode the screen will not come on again. The PC is running but the screen stays black until i reset it. Any trouble shooting I can preform?

Sounds like its locking up. Overheating can be from a couple things, power supply fan, cpu fan, video card fan. I would open it up and make sure that air is flowing thru it, make sure you feel heat blowing from the back of the PC. If you have another computer in the house you could try to connect to the PC when it goes to sleep, utilize a remote desktop session and see if you can get to it. If you are able to its probably the video card, but if not you have a overheating issue.

Thank you. there is a ton of heat off the back of the cpu and the video card is the hottest. I will tear it down for further investigation.

..might try installer a newer vid card driver, ...but IMO, windows power-saving settings cause more problems than they're worth...

I know but it is a heat issue. the fan on the video card is tits up. I just ordered a new one. I fact i'm just going to re-image the entire computer and just use for music through out the entire house.

You could always save up for a mac and not have problems. :notsure: I love my mac book. Had a PC for years and they all last about 3 years then you have to get a new one. It's just I don't like PCs anymore. Too many problems with them.

EDIT: They can last longer if you want to dump a ton of money into one. I've put way too much money into my past PCs. Just done with PC.
