Brought my 2001 tacoma v6 4x4 into the shop today cuz the engine light was on. The dude at the shop ran the code said it was the MAF he replaced it took the truck out for a drive and the piston shot through the top of the motor. Completely f#cked. Not sure if putting in a new MAF would cause this to happen or if was just bad timing what do you guys think? only 150K miles on truck very well taken care of.

There was a thread somewhere where a guy with a diesel dropped a small screw in his intake tube and went for a drive. The screw made it into the engine and destroyed the piston and head.

Dude at the shop is gonna tear down the motor for free and see what happen. hopefully no screws made it into the engine. He is a good mechanic and i fully trust him. I think it was bad timing as well. Hopefully it repairable instead of replacing the whole engine. Super bummed.

If the piston came through the top there's going to be some good work involved. Block and the rest of the rods/pistons may be good but deff going to be some work going on.

I doubt it truely went through the top but I'd definitely say it screwed some shit up on the top end.

havent got a chance to look at myself I will tomorrow i will take pics and upload just restated what i was told by my sister who's actually spoke with the mechanic, its her car. She just told me the rod snapped and the piston shot straight up. so more then likely it didnt go through top of engine.
