It may be "tough as nails" in some situations, but mine ripped about 8 inches right behind the cab. If it was metal it would have never happened! One on my ratchet straps' excess came untied, went in between the bed and cab, then when I stopped, my rear tire ran over the strap and instead of the strap breaking, it RIPPED through my bed. Oh well! I just put a tool box on!

If the horse mats are anything similar to the ones found in gyms, those are way too heavy and cumbersome to cut to fit and lift out to clean. I had some for my home gym thats 4ftx6ft sheets 1/2" thick and also some 3/4" thick of rubber that weighs at least 40-50lbs each. Much easier to buy the factory bed mat thats a perfect fit.

    Good point.

Though I keep mine in the bed when I wash it. If I want to get under the mat, I just fold one side over, clean then do the other side.

I do thank all of you for your help. Babytruck, I do appreciate your support as well as the others. I am old enough not to have thin skin but I agree forums are a place to learn. That is why I am here. I did read all I could when I put a Vais unit in to get Satellite radio and knew what was out there but the thought of bed construction materials from owning two Toys before did not concern me. I knew from a chain saw sliding around without a chain guard 15 years ago that I did not want a slick surface and did not think to crawl under the bed to see what changes might have been made. The posts I read on owner satisfaction did not talk about the bed so I did not think about it. Have decided to go with the mat. Would like to have the option of a larger volume bed without the back side compartments but, like Greg, I will live with it. I also did not know that the tail gates are weak unlike what I had in the past. Seems like the Tacos are getting away from where they started but such is life.... Thanks again for all the knowlege and help....
