Just bought a 2001 Prerunner with 110,000 miles and I'm trying to figure out if the timing belt has been changed. I pulled the cover back and it has a Gates timing belt as well as all of the drive belts. The skid plate has obviously been off as it was missing a couple of bolts. Was Mitsuboshi the original brand or could this Gates be original? Searched like crazy and couldn't find out for sure. Thanks

Yea I just did the 90k timing belt replacement and the drive belts were mitsuboshi. I could not read timing belt due to the lettering had worn off. I would suggest if you are replacing to stick oem. I always hit up my local Toyota dealer parts counter and make friends with them. They will make sure you get the right part.

Gates brand are some of the best, for drive or timing.

Thanks Guys! Every Toyota that I've ever had came with Mitsuboshi, but this one has a Gates timing belt and I was hoping that meant that it had been changed. If Toyota isn't using Gates, then mine must have been changed.....I hope.

It has been changed. Nothing wrong with a gates belt. Run it.
