Out today checking on the truck to see my mpg's have been so low. When I looking over on the passenger side of the engine, I noticed this little pipe sticking out with nothing attached. It looks like the screw above it is holding it in.

Does anyone know what this is?

Is a hose missing (the pipe doesn't have an end to keep a hose one), is it a drain, or what?

What? I said it was a little pipe or something like a straw. Sticks out a inch or so.

But to what? I've looked all over and can't find another place where the other end of a hose would go.

Last year I had my head gasket replaced and the tech was a little sloppy putting everything back. He broke a lot of those zip tie clip things and left the wires hanging, didn't re-connect the switch at the power steering pump, etc. When I got the truck back I was noticing this puffing / steam boat sound on the drivers side. When I took it back to have the stuff fixed, they couldn't find anything. It wouldn't surprise me if he forgot something else.

I'm trying to think..I know on my 96 I have a small black canister in the wheel well that has a vac hose running to it from that area..

Ill go look on my 03 though in a bit to see if I see anything.

It's a drain for the coolant from the engine block. You're supposed to use it when replacing a water pump etc to assist in not making a huge mess. It's a Toyota thing.....
