    hi,

i have an '01 v6 trd 5sp with 176k on it. it runs great but i need to put some $ into the suspension. i keep a lite camper on it all of the time (fwc) that weighs 800 lbs.

i'm debating putting money into an new suspension or selling it an buying a 2nd gen '05-'08. i'm thinking about going with the 4cyl which is almost as powerful as my v6? i don't mind taking it slow up the grades.

should i do it? what are the pros & cons? do the 4cyl models come with the options like controls on the steering wheel for radio etc., trd, cruise, power windows & locks, bluetooth?

thanks in advance for any replies :)

It would be nice to refurbish your current truck overhaul the suspension components and anything else that needs replacement.

But the nice thing about the second gens there little bit room. I'd recomend getting a v6 you'll definetly like the power and not worry about struggling up hills

Would you have the cap on the new truck? If so don't get a 4cyl.
I don't know if you would get steering wheel control unless it was a 2008 with jbl.

Rebuilding your suspension would run you about 500-1000. By far the cheaper option. Your truck has a ton of life in it. I would keep it but its really about what you want.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Keep and fix your truck (unless you are Bill Gates) Any decent truck spring shop can re-arch and add a leaf for under $400. Get new shocks, too.

Don't do it....while I liked my '09 (Had it for 2 year) before trading it a friend for his 02 Access Cab 6cyl 5 speed 4x4...to me its no contest...the grin factor on the 1st gens is worth it to me. At at 160K miles with no regrets..put some money into your suspension and keep the ride.

I thought about getting a 2nd gen before my current truck , but the 1st gens drive really well for me.

The big thing that drove me away from the 2nd gens is the interior space, the interior feels small compared to how big the truck feels when you're driving it, my 1st gen feels about perfect.

My girlfriend has a 2013 double cab with the 4cyl and it's gutless. I like my 01 V6 a lot more. Though hers does have more room inside...

Shouldn't cost too much to re-do the rear suspension.

I say fix it or trade it in on a slightly used 99 model :D
