So my first thread, like the title says I used to have a jeep xj 4.5 lift 33 plenty more mods, however, time after time on the trails I would see toyota just exceeding my expectations which is what got me hooked.
So I need some advise, help, expertise and maybe a shoulder to cry on . I just bought a 2000 tacoma TRD 3.4L 5spd bought it off a older lady so really has not been abused but has been neglected in some areas such as maintenance. The shocks front/back and leaf springs are shot they need to be replaced. So here is where the advise comes I never delt with IFS what should I do I would like a 3-4 inch lift do I replace the rear leaf springs and get a bigger pack or do I just add a leaf? What size shocks do I need? as for the front I would like to go with a coil over lift maybe a old man emu what should I get? do I need to change control arms or extend my steering ? I am mechanically able just dont want to waste a bunch of money any advice would help. Also shoulder i run tube bumpers appose to plate which are much more heavy? Thanks for reading Sláinte

    Bone stock. For now.
I would spend some time in the 5100/eibach thread and the OME thread. Also, check out wheelersoffroad.com. They sell both kits.

What about putting factory FJ springs and shocks under the front end? I have a set of off a 2007 4X4 and was looking to see if anyone had used them on a older taco, the forerunner guys seem to be using them their newer platforms. So far my use of the search function has not yielded much.

I'd say 80-90% of everyone on here has either the Eibach springs and Bilstein 5100's combo or some OME (Old Man Emu) set up. I have the Eibach/Bilstein combo, so I don't know much about the OME one. That'll give you 3" in the front and a 1.5" AAL in the rear will level it out. I got all my stuff from ToyTec, DownSouth MotorSports, and Wheeler's Offroad. There are TONS of galleries and DIY threads on both IFS setups. As long as you don't go over 3'', you won't need new control arms or have to extend your steering. Some ppl have to extend their rear brake line for the AAL, but I didn't and I have a 2001. As far as bumpers go, here's a gallery I created of almost all the 1st gen bumper options. I'd say tube or pate is all personal preference:

    Also, welcome to TW.

if you have a grand. id highly recomend getting a full setup from OME then with new leafs.

Its a great lift and you can build off it easily to fit your needs later.

Check out Wheelersoffroad.com, they have the kits and can change them to fit your needs.

Which brings us to the next question..what are you going to do with the truck? Armor wise and gear wise tire wise ect.

Yes, get new leafs. There are a couple very popular front spring/shock combos to choose from, and I'd replace the ball joints while you're down there.

    And welcome, fellow '00 owner!
