FREESAMPLE: They didn't work after my first attempt. The second method I described works fine- I can turn the fogs on as long as the ignition is in the on or run position, and stay on when the brights come on. The biggest difference is that I'm getting power from the inside fuse block. The wire goes out where the hood release cable goes. I really don't like tapping into a circuit when I don't know all the possible consequences. The lights will NOT ever come on when the truck is off.
My original attempt is described here

I would not suggest the linked method. It's just too difficult and not worth it for the simple thing we're trying to accomplish..

Sorry, I didn't realize it was on another forum.

I did this mod a few months ago after the new truck smell finally subsided. After reading all of the posts, both here and on toyotanation, I decided on my own combination of methods.

First, I wanted to stay away from bending the terminal on the fog light relay after someone mentioned that after bending and snapping the terminal off the replacement cost at the dealer was $127 IIRC.

Second, I did not want my lights turning on autonomously after shut down. From what I remember it was because the green wire that everyone was tapping into for 12v was for the EFI which cycles four hours after shutdown, thus the autonomous fog light issue. Unfortunately, after digging around the top of the fuse box for half an hour with a volt meter, it appears that the EFI circuit is the only ignition on 12v supply available above the panel, all others are constant.

Third, my largest concern was that I like doing things as clean as possible, i.e. stock/stealth, meaning no bent terminals on relays, wires laying across my fuse panel with fuses bouncing around.

Finally, my last concern was that I didn't want to have to turn my fog lights off every time I turned off the ignition or have to turn off both my headlights then my fog lights when approaching a guard post or checkpoint. In other words I wanted them to work like all my other cars with fog lights.

To meet my goals, I first did all of my wiring under the fuse panel and thus the mod is completely hidden and clean, i.e. no dealer issues. To avoid having to bend a fog light relay terminal I cut and then spliced into the wire normally going to the 12v terminal on the relay from underneath the panel. I sourced the 12v supply from the front left side marker also under the fuse panel, wired in a fuse and connected it to the stock wire going to the terminal. Then buttoned her back up and no one can tell - no wires, or fuses visible.

The end result is a completely stealth mod that functions like all the other cars I have had with fog lights - fog lights powered only with parking lights, off with ignition and no need to turn off headlights then fogs. The only draw back of doing it this way is that instead of 5 minutes it might take 30 mins. Any method is acceptable, but I like going the extra mile, or in this case the extra 20-25 mins.

    Cheers :)
