They said its a paint protector and will last ...but nothing really last so im looking for a good wax and i heard Mothers was the best.... Ive only had the truck just over 2wks ...But i live in BUFFALO the snow capital of NY....so what would you guys suggest?:)

Mothers makes a good product. However, if you want it to last, stay away from carnauba wax & stick to a synthetic wax or some kind of paint sealant.

This is one of those things like engine oil where everyone thinks what they use is the best. I've used dozens of different waxes over the years and one of my favorites is the original Mother's carnuba paste wax. It will stain the plastic/rubber trim but it has a great shine and it does last quite a while. I wouldn't plan on a few coats totally staying all winter but it certainly will help.

Mask off any plastic parts before waxing. I assume the paint is in a condition you are happy with so I would recommend using a sealant.

Look into Wizard's polish line , been using that on mine and it really works nice . I know a couple of people that use Pinnacle on their clear coated trucks and that stuff is amazing but comes with a serious price tag .

If you want something that last, you need a paint sealant. There are several good brands out there. I have used Klasse All in One in the past, but recently switched over to Adam's Polishes sealants. I have yet to find an Adam's product that does not work.

The biggest difference between the natural and synthetic stuff, is that with the natural wax, you have to reapply it about every 3 months because it wears off. The synthetic you can probably get away with 6 months and some even claim to be a "once per year" wax. Namely NuFinish.

I like to throw some nufinish on, and then a lot of coats of mothers carnuba. Then with all my washes, I use a wax as you dry to help keep it up. Bird crap, mud and water shed like crazy. I usually apply something like armor all or whatever to the trim before I wax, so I don't have issue with that, and I don't have all the smudges to wipe off the paint later from doing the trim.

I've used Mother's Wax with good results.

If you get paste wax on your black plastic bits, use a little peanut butter on it. Takes it right off.

I suggest a good synthetic paint sealant then carnauba wax. Seal the paint then put a coat of wax on it. A good sealant will last 6 months and wax every 30 days.

I use Meguiar's Ultimate synthetic paste wax. Does a good job, doesn't break the bank, and can be picked up at Walmart. Just thought I'd chime in since nobody mentioned Meguiar's.

my truck sits outside and being a dark color, Mothers synthetic wax never lasts more than a couple of weeks. the best wax for durability and shine is Black Magic wax. i can not seem to find it anymore, all the other Black Magic products can be found. i use the Mothers on my Mustang GT because it sits in the garage most of the time and with the vinyl stripes and black trim the wax does not leave a white residue. i use Eagle Nano wax car wash, makes it bead like crazy.

For your outside truck, just add as many coats as you can. My 97 chevy spent almost it's entire life outside and the paint is fantastic. I just put as many coats on as I could muster. Then when I ran out of steam, I would commit to putting at least a couple more coats on the upward surfaces like the roof and hood etc. It's lasted forever like that. Shed water like crazy, even mud too.

I used mothers a month ago and I didn't mind it. I am not sure how it's going to hold up since that it's hasn't been that long. I used Mothers scratch remover too and it seems to do the job. You have to add a lot of it though to make sure the scratch goes away. Now that winter is coming and I park outside, I don't really have a any time left to add more coats of wax. I am just going to wait until Spring, or a Chinook to roll on through and then I will add more. Also a wash as well.

One way to look at it is, treat wax like paint. I wouldn't put one coat on something and expect it to be done. Same with wax. Wax just doesn't show up like paint does so you have to guess. But once you've done a few coats, it makes that one coat stuff feel like junk. One coat is like an overspray compared to a good color coat (several coats of wax). You start to fill in all the little invisible pits were the wax gets spread thin. For some of you who have not tried it, next time you wax, set aside a little more time and do it. You'll see a big difference in how long the wax lasts, and how much better it sheds everything.
