No wonder you guys in the north are having rust issues. My truck only has 96 miles on it and EVERY single weld on the frame had rust spots peeking through in 3 or 4 places.

The frame itself is rust free, or at least what I saw was. Not so for the welds..In fact I didn't see a weld that wasn't starting to rust.

Anyway, figured I'd let you guys know who have new trucks. Go in there and give it a shot of protection....No matter where you live.

No rust issues for me and we live in a hot / HUMID!!! environment. Luckily not much salt on the roads though.

Taken at 30k (yes... 30,000) miles

Hard to tell the rust from the mud and everything else under there. Not much rust here in AZ though

Mines got 800 miles, I was just under mine and see some areas of the factory coating on the driveshaft have flaked off and rust starting. A few frame weld spots starting to rust also.

I want to hit it all soon, I am probably going to do truck bed liner. Since it's like paint there shouldn't be any issues with water and salt getting under it and rotting where you can't see like undercoating.

Just went to my work to pick up some cans and we are out :(

Aren't most bed liner products a thick rubberized material? Seems to me you'd have pretty close to the same issues with rust forming through cracks and holes as you do with regular undercoating. In my opinion your better off with a product like fluid film... it lubricates as well as protects and all bolts/nuts under the truck are still easy to see and work on if needed.

The duplicolor tr250 truck coating goes on like paint. Its a thin layer, but it dries hard.

If you get the professional stuff, it comes out like whip cream in a tornado and its wicked thick and rubbery and you can watch it bubble forever until it starts to dry.

I might do fluid film, i don't know. I have yet to see any before winter applications of fluid film with a spring time picture for comparison.

I am stuck on the fence with this one, I made a thread in the detailing section but it's not a hot topic

I have about 800 miles on my 2013 and see a little rust on the suspension leaf spring brackets. I'm in North Georgia also. It's only been in one rain storm since I've bought it and never off road. Does anyone know if Toyota improved rust prevention on newer model Tacomas? You would think they would have really addressed this issue after the frame rust recalls.

Lol, I remember a few years back seeing an add for a Willy Jeep, original paint no rust. I was like YEAH RIGHT!

Then I was schooled on the vehicle having been sold and never leaving AZ, no moisture = no rust!

You must be pulling a Ferris Bueller with that truck! Sitting on cinder blocks letting the tires spin.

Lol... no but I do have to rotate the tires tomorrow. I'm going to take the wheels off and let it sit on jack stands in the driveway while I clean underneath it all day. Might just let it sit out all night like that to piss the HOA off but that is kind of the point I guess.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
i just noticed that the crossover on the prerunner is not a PITA low tube like the 4x4

heres mine for ref, sorry for the sun my camera Monica's

I reckon it's luck of the draw.
