1st gen security system gone nuts

I'm just curious if anyone else has had any problems with the security system? It's an '02 prerunner with the PERMAVIN VIP security system. over the past 2 or 3 months the alarm goes off at random times for no apparent reason whatsoever. my key fob is practically useless due to the fact that I have to be like 3 feet from the truck in order for it to work; therefore I just use the key but sometimes my lock/unlock alert (beep) will sound for about 5-10 seconds straight. If I can manage to get this on video I will upload it for a clearer explanation of what is really going on. Just curious if anyone has had similar issues and maybe knows what to do.
