That's the exact situation I was in with my wife except I had a 4Runner and was trying to get her to trade her Yaris in for the Tacoma. I ended up trading the 4Runner in so that I could get the Tacoma and she still has her Yaris.

You should have bought a quadcab taco first so more closed space and a bed.

My vote has to go with a topper and keeping the taco, it would be cheaper and you'ld still have your bed available to you if you ever needed it again

I sold my '04 Tacoma, was considering a new one but bought a '12 SR5 4runner and am very happy with my decision. I also was never using the bed anymore and felt it was just wasted space. It's nice to be able to travel various places and have everything secure within the vehicle.
A main complaint about the 5th gen runners is the suspension being to squishy. I also though it needed more ground clearance so I had a 3" icon lift installed and it fixed both issues. It's a pleasure to drive and no nose diving when the brakes are applied. To me the KDSS wasn't a must have item. It can be problematical when installing rock rails as it's in the way. Unless your doing some fancy maneuvering it's probably not really needed anyway.
Enjoy your runner and save some cash for all the mods. ;)

well when i drove the warden's 06 DC v6 and having a 04 4runner SE, the ride was way better than the tacoma.

right now she has a 12 DC v6 TRD OR and i will be getting a 14 4runner LE, and i imagine the ride will be like night and day.

she likes the bouncy ride, me i dont care for it, hence the reason for getting the T4R.

Now that my taco is nicely modded, my wife wants to drive it to work all the time and leave me with the sienna se. I got her thinking about trading in the mini van for a trail team 4runner. They look awesome with tires and plate bumpers. It would be nice to have both.

BTW, My dealer had 2 2014 SR5 4runners on the lot the other day. I think I would rather find a used 2011-13 trail teams...
