If I went to my dealer and asked for a factory remote start, would they be installing a viper or something? There is no Toyota factory remote start, correct?

I've never known anyone to have OEM starters really work. If they do, it's not for that long. I would suggest for you to go to a shop that specializes in starters/alarms. I would also suggest brands like Viper or Compustar, you can't go wrong with either. Stay away from places like Best Buy, Future Shop to do to do the installing. Well unless you like young people who make around minimum wage to be screwing with your electronics.

i agree with avoiding oem stuff. really the only thing i'd get from toyota is their supercharger and thats only because its a couple thousand dollar investment on your engine AND toyota will cover any damages if anything were to happen. plus, thanks to this forum i learned everything else toyota just gets from someone, sticks their name on it and marks it up. plus the options you'd get on aftermarket remote starts will give you more bang for the buck. a buddy who works at best buy hooked me up with the viper 5704 lc3 (i think they may have changed the name) and i love it. it's two way, has a one mile range, shock sensors work, keychain will go off and tell you where the sensors went off at. even gives you the temperature of the inside of your truck when you turn the remote start on. for mine i think i got it for about 500 or so (this was like 2 years back) plus a 50 dollar part to bypass the oem alarm.

It's weird that I was thinking about this today without seeing it here first. When I bought my truck new back in 2011, the guy at the dealer told me that Toyota had a factory remote start system that literally plugged in to the factory system without any cutting of wires needed. I called 3 different dealers today looking for said system and they all told me that they don't exist. At least not any more. Discontinued? It would be nice to find one that plugs in without cutting in to the factory harnesses...
