Shanked lug nuts needed???

So I had my lift installed this evening (pics to come soon in a separate thread). The installers of a local offroad performance shop informed me that I have the wrong lug nuts for my 17x9 moto metal 951s. The lug nuts I'm using are the ones sent to me by the folks that sold me my wheels too, I knew I needed new ones, the factory ones wouldn't work...

He said that even though the wheels are hub centric, the "shanked" lug nuts actually center the wheel on the hub. I told him about the minimal and random vibrations I've had since I got new tires, and he said that I can have the wheels/tires balanced over and over again, but it probably won't help because I have the wrong lug nuts.

Now, I've done lots of research before all of my upgrades, and this is the first I've heard about 'shanked' lug nuts. Does anyone have any input on this? I had him order me a set since I've had the tires/wheels balanced a 2nd time since the new tires were mounted. I still get a bit of steering wheel vibration between 55 and 68 mph, but its really random. Some roads I won't get any, some roads make it somewhat noticable.

Anyways, just curious on any thoughts about this. He also said that I'd need a different socket do use these shanked lug nuts. Something about a 13/16 socket, but I'd need to take a belt sander (or something similar) to grind down the socket so it fits in the lug nut hole in the wheel.
