My passenger side front window has broken 3 times this year on my 2011 taco. The dealer fixed it the first two times and it was covered by the warranty each time, but they can offer no explanation and I'm not looking forward to when it is OUT of warranty. .
Each time they've had to get a new window because, apparently, small tabs on the bottom of the window are snapping off. I love my truck but this kinda sucks.

Anyone have any ideas or experience with this type of problem?

When I rolled it down it made a strange clunking noise like it came off track. 3rd time last night.

    Anyone?

By broken window, you mean shattered or the window mechanism is broken?

    sounds like the mechanism...

this is an alignment issue, either the track is wack causing extra pressure, window is set in the cradle a bit off, motor not aligned correctly, someone needs to get the door panel off and do some real time observation to observe where the tweakage is located while the window is being powered up and down...

    it is fixable....

I'd probably try a different dealer before your warranty is up.

The dealership isn't doing a very good job of actually diagnosing the problem. Try a different dealership and take your paperwork of the previous fixes that you have had done.

Yeah, tell the dealer you want the whole mechanism, including tracks, replaced.
It sounds like the track was twisted during install which is binding, causing friction, which in turn causing breakage.

Thanks for the replies! Yeah it is the mechanism, & I will definitely ask them to repair the entire thing rather than just replace the window, again. There is only one dealer on Kauai so I hope they'll be cool bout it. If not... Argh. I looked at the lemon law statutes but I love my truck and don't want to move on...

So I got it fixed, again. In case anyone has a similar issue here's what they said...
While it isnt a common problem the type of glue/epoxy used to attach the glass was prone to becoming brittle and failing. So they have a new epoxy which will not ever dry completely... And new glue should be fine.
Seems odd to me but I believe them. Ill update if it breaks again.

We have had this happen on Lexus cars also. They must use the same adhesive. But usually one repair and it's good. I haven't had one come back.

Just yanked the mechanism out of the passenger door of my quad cab 2006 Tacoma last weekend. Window was going up crooked. I went ahead and bought the replacement regulator/motor combination. Turns out, not needed. The window is connected to the regulator by two bolts which go into a bracket glued to the bottom of the window - front and back. One of the bolts had loosened and fell out. It was in the well of the door. All I really has to do was put this bolt back in. Instead, I put in the new mechanism since I already had it apart. Got it off RockAuto.com.

In your case, someone is just not diagnosing this thing correctly. Something is interfering with the regulator, and causing a failure - hopefully not causing the need for yet another regulator. My guess is that the dealer has never changed the regulator. They just look at it and think well - this looks OK - but its not. You can operate the regulator while it is laying in your hand and see its operation.

On cars that I repair, I use blue Loctite on the two bolts.
