hubcentric vs. lugcentic

what's the difference in hubcentric and lugcentic wheels? And which one would be best on my 99 prerunner? I have read some threads, but it doesn't make much sense to me. could someone please explain it. thanks

 

Aftermarket wheels will have a centerbore different than that of the vehicle's hub.
You'll need rings that fill the different centerbore of the aftermarket wheel (larger than OEM) to match the vehicles hub. Wheel shops will show you one.

Lug centric is relying on the wheel nuts to center the wheel. You need to hand tighten the wheels with a torque wrench in the alternating pattern standard to torquing wheel nuts. Do a light ~25% of wheel nut torque.
Then go around again to full torque.

Centering the centerbore of the wheel on the hub is preferred, the alternate procedure using the wheel nuts is the other option, though not necessarily as sure of centering the wheel on the hub.

Either will work. I've used both methods. I prefer the centering rings to ensure the wheel runs true.

 

could anyone possibly tell me what the measurements for the lug hole are supposed to be on my stock wheels. the reason I am wanting to know is because i bought my tacoma about 3 months ago, since then i have noticed that there is some pretty bad vibes coming from the truck at highway speeds, it's like the hole trucks bounces/shakes bad between 45-55, but at speeds of 65+ it smooths out. i have spend lots of $$ of time trying to fix this issue but with no avail. although at one of the many tires shops I have visited in the last 3 months they informed me that the lug nuts that come on the truck were acorn style nuts for steel wheels. they also said that because of the wrong lug nuts being on there that there are eating away (boring) at my mag wheels. i am just wondering if the wheels have some slop due to the poor fitment between the lugs and the wheels and that is what is causing my problem.

 

You can't use the steel wheel nuts with aftermarket rims. You have a serious safety issue there. Hopefully your wheels aren't too chewed up to switch to a proper set of wheel nuts. See a shop to determine if the wheels are salvageable, and switch to proper nuts asap..
