You will know if they are bad once you start your engine. It will give you this overwhelming feeling like you should stop driving. Also, a check engine light will usually emerge.

Congrats on 100k. I had 126k when i sold my 2005 superwhite. Never had an issue with mine either. I did a coolant flush at 102,000 and had the tranny flushed at the dealer b4 that. Other than that, it was regular maintenance. These trucks last forever, especially if you maintain them properly.

Mine will be at 100k by the time it's due for its next oil change. Most likely before the end of the month.
LOL! Biggest year I ever had was 45k in one year on my '03 Tundra.
Bought it in October of '02 and traded it August '05 with 125k on it.
I bought a '94 DLX in September '96 with 34k on it, traded it on the Tundra with 225k. That was an average of 27k per year.
I bought my '08 in December '11 with 54k on it. I'll be over 100k by December this year, so I'm still averaging about the same, and I'm no longer using the truck for business!
Que????? Bad coil just means you'll have a misfire. There's not enough liquid fuel to hydraulic the head, and think about it... a cylinder that does not fire has less pressure at TDC than a cylinder that is firing.
2nd Gen has a separate coil for each cylinder. The engine will kinda' run on 2 coils.

Misfire lead me to my blown head gasket. I had no problems before.

Or did the blown head gasket cause the misfire?

TY, I was exited about hitting 100K & made SURE to get the photo, lol. I need to change the coolant myself although it checks good, but it's most likely due. Bought the truck at 62K, not sure if it's ever been done. I really want to flush the tranny as well although Toyota says it's sealed & don't need it, would feel better about it getting done regardless. I know that it's just the beginning of a long dependable journey. :D

I just went past 100K a couple of weeks ago on my 2004 Tacoma. I new it was coming and wanted to capture the odometer reading too but it completely slipped my mind and caught it at 100,030 miles instead! DANG IT! I wanted to cry because I missed it.

I thought about that. However, cylinder #2 ignition coil went out twice after the rebuild.

    Coincidence.
Bad coil won't cause a blown head gasket.
A problem in the ECU (or swapped wires) causing the coil to fire at the wrong time could cause enough cylinder pressure to blow the gasket, but that is very unlikely and wouldn't fix itself with a new coil.
