OP, even domestic manufacturers try to take your first-born when you buy parts at the dealership. I busted up a side mirror on my Chevy Silverado and the dealership wanted about $700 just for the part.

It's dealerships in general... not just toyota/import dealerships.

In a world full of lies.....deception....and horribly engineered chinese products built to look like what USE to be a quality product....One can only become an expert on every single product he or she buys in order to avoid being shafted by the crooked capitalism that utilizes slave labor to produce the vERY minimal crap product that will only JUST BARELY work, using the thinnest materials and toxic process to earn capital gains at the expense of the average person.

Yes, the yota parts may cost more....but the Toyota is one of the last...True...quality...mid-size pickups on the planet. Much like a good firearm...The MIL-SPEC gun is much better than the high point poop, but costs a lot more.

Having owned a ford ranger for 14 years, It went through an engine transplant, two clutch system replacements, multiple computer problems, wiring problems, IACV problems, where all of the parts were plastic type shat. Replacing The slave cylinder in that truck requires transmission seperation, and the damn thing is plastic! it melted and failed. That piece of junk runs at about $90.00 while the Tacoma Slave can be replaced with two bolts on the Outtttside of the tranny, and costs about $35....made of metal.....

So anyhow, when it comes down to the bolts and nuts.. stuff like that is why I would gladly pay more for JDM type engineering. While most domestics turn to trash, Most JDM's are still built to a great standard.

Sadly even Toyota has slowly started to use things like the shitty LUK brand clutch that has failed many of us. Avoid Stealerships and Beware of the capitalist lies!! :crapstorm::crapstorm::crapstorm::crapstorm:

    I agree with that...

...but why would Toyota price those engines and transmissions like that? Imagine you're out of warranty and your dealer says: you can either have us fix your vehicle, or you can junk it and buy a brand new one for about the same amount of money. That is literally saying, "we don't want the inconvenience of selling you these parts."

I understand there are extra costs in having parts outside the normal assembly supply chain, especially if the current production run doesn't use that particular part, and that it's reasonable to make a profit, but the profit margins on these longblocks would make a Ferengi jealous. Heck, the Tundra V8 is made here in the states; it's not like there's a trip across the Pacific to account for.

    Remanned what?

It cost me 6-800 to have a 22r or 22re fully rebuild

Civic engines along with most newer 4cyl engines cost around $1500

Cost to have the 2tr rebuilt is dependent on what all needs done. The full kits are 1000-1500 so far and I have not seen what is wrong with it

The parts for a 22r are more expensive oem so if you want the oem parts kit it ends up costing more like 1500.

The tundra 5.7 23k is also what I was told by a friend who was a toyota tech and replaced one.

You can have yours rebuilt locally for a bit less money but what does it include? Sure you can slap some rings in it replace the bearings timing chain maybe but if it going to be done right with real quality parts, proper re bore, machined crank, new valves, etc.etc. with parts that did not come from China I stand by my figures. Here is a company that does them right they do not sell them on ebay along with the China rebuilts--http://www.22reperformance.com/22RE_Performance_-_Rebuilt_Engines.html

For labor i pay $20 per hole to have a 22r block bored with deck plate.

Assembly is free if you do it yourself, all crank and cam, rods wrist pins etc etc checked and bored as needed. Always have the cranks etc pollished etc

The heads are simple to assemble but for the proper valve job etc I have the shop do it.

The OEM supplys to rebuild most 22rs are around $750 theblast time I had one done that way.

OEM is not the best anyway since the cheaped out on the timing chain guides in later years and some aftermarket kits use better seals etc as well.

2500 is not a bad price but 4k would be ridiculous for a 22r series.. that's paying a premium for an overhead or profit margin that is not needed.

The later 2.7 will naturally cost more because it has more parts and complexity.

A ring job and some new bearings would not be a rebuild its would be refreshing and its pretty much a waste. When you get to that point you should go through everything and restorethe engine to whatever specs it has left behind. Which on some engines will be more or less than others.

Also the 22rperformance site is good.

For an out the door quality product I would happily buy from them if I didn't have a better way to get it for myself.

I get a better price because much of the leg work I do myself and my family gets a good price at the machine shop on the labor because of the number of engines we have had

I have an aftermarket driver's side mirror that vibrates as described above. You get what you pay for!

When will these 2nd Gens end up in Pick-n-Pull yards!?
