Anyone done the resistor mod?

Ive seen around the net about wiring in a resistor into the air intake sensor. The concept is to trick your ECU into thinking the air coming in is colder than it actually is. A 1/4 watt resistor is only $.99 from radio shack and this would be one of the cheapest mods in TW if this info is accurate. Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on this situation.

so what would the gains be? more horses, mpg's?

 

Advanced timing per the link. The 4.0 is already pushing the limits of running on regular gas. I don't understand screwing with your engine for some possible small gain in power at the expense of reliability and longevity. Seems like a bad idea to me.

Same concept as those power chip addons. No worky those things. Oil of winged snake....

It may advance the timing, but it will also fuck with the mixture.

 

Reliability over a few extra HP any day. Mods and upgrades are great when they make your truck better for your needs. Build it to your hearts content as far as suspension, armor, gears, etc. But other than a K&N, I leave my yota motors stock and let them do what they do best...run for longer than almost any other make out there. 190K+ of hard miles on my 98 w/o a problem. When it pops I'll throw a new crate motor in it. That being said, I know that some people love getting those extra 5-10 HP as much as I love adding something that gets me past that one part of a trail that stopped me on the last trip. A 16 hr shift + a 12er and 6 Jaegers = me posting tangents that have nothing to do with resistor mods. My apologies.

 

You don't like your gas mileage? Not bad enough all ready? I'm sure that would help.
